New Nordic
"And although Minnesota is not generally considered a nexus for new ideas in world cuisine, this Scandinavian surge is intersecting with the most avant-garde movement in food today: New Nordic cuisine, based on cold-weather crops, traditional foodways and naturalistic presentations."
"After decades of French-based cuisine, followed by Mediterranean flavors and then Spanish modernism, the most trendy ingredients for chefs to work with now include preindustrial Nordic staples: root vegetables, fish roe, wild greens, venison, dried mushrooms, seaweed and cow’s milk."

Idea of the Morning
"We have this great internal list where people post new ideas and everyone can go on and see them. It's like a voting pool where you can say how good or bad you think an idea is. Those comments lead to new ideas."
- Marissa Mayer - (Fast Company - 9 Principles of Innovation - #2 Ideas Come From Anywhere)

Who is Mario Balotelli?
Super Mario? Peter Pan? 21-year-old Italian born, Ghanaian Mario Balotelli.
New York Times - "Short-Fused and Explosive"
"One of two Italian players of African descent, he has endured racial abuse, monkey chants from Spanish fans, then more taunting chants from Croatian fans and a banana tossed onto the field."
"mercurial career"
"his artistic temperament not having undermined his artistic talent."
"Which Balotelli will show up against Spain? The one who scored twice against Germany? The one who seemed reluctant to shoot on a clear chance in the earlier match against Spain?
Will Balotelli act out as he has, stamping on opponents and dangerously kicking at their legs? Will he kick a goal post as he did after being thwarted repeatedly in the quarterfinals against England? Or will he steel himself for penalty kicks, as he also did in that match, shooting confidently, flexing his muscled arms in exultation?
Will it be a quiet and uneventful weekend, or will his hotel room catch on fire, as his house did last October after fireworks were set off in the bathroom?
Will he have a dispute with his coach? Will he have an allergic reaction to the grass and have to leave early, his face swollen, as happened here in a 2011 Europa League match with his English club team, Manchester City?
Will he be resolute or put-upon? Will he be the same player who cuffed a pass while sliding to the ground in May, assisting in Manchester City’s improbable comeback to win the Premier League? Or the one who raised his club jersey last fall to reveal the self-pitying message, “Why Always Me?”
Who is Anthony Ervin?
2000 Olympic 50 Freestyle Gold Medalist and 2001 50 Free and 100 Free World Champion sprinter Anthony Ervin retired from swimming in 2003 at age 22. Tonight his return to swimming could earn him a spot on the London Olympic team. He's the #1 qualifier for the 50 Free final with a personal best 21.74.
"That time, tied for third-best in the world, left the normally loquacious Ervin so giddy he barely knew what to say.
“It’s the best time,” he said. “That’s what it’s always about in swimming, right, chasing down the best time? We’ll see what happens tomorrow, right? Then you might actually want to write something about me.” He walked away without waiting for questions."
