Seattle - The Alternative City

We all thought they were crazy for letting the SuperSonics move to Oklahoma City a year ago. But, with back-to-back sold out (32,000) Seattle Sounders FC matches Paul Allen and the millionaires of Seattle may know what they are doing.

Joe Roth (Holywood producer) is the majority owner of the Sounders. Paul Allen is a minority shareholder, like Drew Carey.
I think Paul Allen will probably sell his stake to start a franchise in Portland, if Portland's city council approves a stadium for a team (which needs to be done for the MLS to expand to that area).

Also, I'd expect almost every game of the season to be sold out. Toronto FC (a team who started last year) had a sell out at every game. Since Seattle already has 22,000 season tickets in a 28,000 capacity stadium, it shouldn't be too hard for them to sell out every match, especially if they're good. Plus tickets for MLS games are usually much cheaper than other US Sports.

To correct my last post, as written in the NYT link, the stadium can expand to fit 32,000 people. Didn't know that.
