Joaquin Phoenix: Retires from Acting

This interview seems shady, but Joaquin's reps have confirmed that he is done working in film as he is pursuing a career in music.

Joaquin Phoenix is most notable for his roles as Emperor Commodus in Gladiator (2000) and as Johnny Cash in Walk the Line (2005) and a few M. Night Shyamalan films. He has two Academy Award nominations (Best Supporting Actor for Gladiator, and Best Actor for Walk the Line). Interestingly enough Joaquin and his older brother River Phoenix (1970-1993) are the only brothers to have both received Oscar nominations.

It's too bad he does not want to continue acting, but as Walk the Line showed he could have a promising career in music.

The poor big guy

Bill Simmons wrote a fairly interesting column yesterday on Portland Trailblazer Greg Oden. The poor big guy is out for the first 2-4 weeks of this season due to some type of knee injury after sitting out his entire rookie season.

Here is an excerpt from the column:

"The league needs him. He could be a wonderful, thoughtful personality along the lines of Bill Bradley, Kevin McHale, Charles Barkley, Magic Johnson and Bill Walton—an original, someone who defies every unfair stereotype of NBA players."
