Tesla's Flying Roadster and the Future Global Car Market

Wall Street Journal - "What Tesla’s Flying Roadster Really Means for the Global Auto Race"

"With a flying sports car, Elon Musk displayed again that he’s America’s biggest dreamer.

...

In many ways, whether it flies or not is besides the point. Unveiling the Roadster with out-of-this-world technology reiterated that Musk has given up designing cars for regular people to drive. He says the Roadster is the last new vehicle Tesla will offer for humans to drive and is betting instead on remaking Tesla as a robotics company.

In effect, Musk is leaving the mainstream car market to the Chinese—who, he has suggested, are so formidable that many Western automakers are unable to compete without government intervention. It’s a telling sign of where things are going for the Western automotive industry."

The Everyday Car of Yesteryear Now Prized Vintage

Wall Street Journal - "From ‘Piece of Junk’ to Prize Showpiece: The Rise of the Everyday Classic Car"

"“People collect or buy the stuff that they kind of imprinted on when they were younger,” Rabold said.

That has helped shift the landscape of the “collector” scene beyond the baby boomers to what Gen Xers and millennials grew up idolizing. Tyson Hugie, 44, has owned more than 50 cars, especially from Honda and Acura. He makes YouTube videos about his 12-car collection in his home city of Phoenix. Among them, a 1989 Honda Prelude 4WS, the same type of car he drove in high school.

“It’s kind of like a time machine,” he said. “I get in that car, and I’m taken back to being 17 years old.”

The average age among Hagerty’s customers in 2025 was 53, but Gen-Z is the company’s fastest-growing customer base. Insurance policies are up 48% year-over-year for Hagerty’s Gen-Z drivers.

Dominic DiLettera, 19, is a sophomore in college in Rochester, N.Y. He saved all his birthday money and every allowance since he was 7 years old, knowing he would one day want to buy a car. At 15 he decided he wanted something fun, so he paid $3,000 for a 1989 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24—a sporty version of Chevy’s boxy compact car."

The Next Big Youth/High School Sport - Flag Football

Bloomberg - "Flag Football’s Boom Is Shaking Up Youth Sports"

"According to data from the National Federation of State High School Associations, more than 100,000 American high school girls played flag football at school during the 2025-26 academic year, which constitutes a 48% jump from the previous year and an increase of more than 550% from just five years ago. By the NFL’s numbers, approximately 800,000 girls from age 6 to 17 now compete in some capacity. In a 2025 report, Project Play, the Aspen Institute’s youth sports initiative, found that flag football was the only team sport that grew its overall participation among American kids from 2014 to 2024. The report’s authors put it bluntly: “In the decades to come, we may view youth sports as two eras — before flag football exploded and after.”"

Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6)

"Some analysts expect the next Grand Theft Auto to sell 40 million copies on PlayStation and Xbox and generate more than $3 billion in revenue in its first four months. Rockstar won’t say how much the game cost to make (though Kolbe did shoot down a popular rumor that it surpassed the $1.5 billion it cost to build Dubai’s Burj Khalifa). But, based on the time and labor involved, it’s almost certainly the most expensive video game ever created."

Quentin Tarantino's First Stage Play

World of Reel - "Quentin Tarantino's ‘The Popinjay Cavalier,' Starring Sacha Baron Cohen, Has First Poster, Sets March Premiere"

""I'm keen with anticipation to give the West End a great night out," Tarantino said in a statement.

Tarantino wrote and is directing the "swashbuckling comedy," set in 1830s Europe and billed as a “rambunctious tale of deception and disguise” inspired by old Hollywood swashbucklers, including the writings of George Bruce. That's very much in QT's wheelhouse: a genre-obsessed love letter to a style of entertainment nobody makes anymore."

"Previews start February 23, opening night is March 18, and it's a limited three-month run through June 13. "
